Sure, Upstate South Carolina is a year-round golf destination. But let’s be honest, there’s still something about the onset of the spring golf season that kicks it up another notch or two.
There’s the weather, which goes from tolerable (pants and pullovers) to down-right beautiful (shorts and polos) once late March and early April roll around.
And there’s the brilliantly blooming Eastern redbuds, dogwoods and azaleas that abound throughout the region. Which, in turn, leads us to The Masters, spring’s true rite of passage for golfers around the country.
As we round into February, now is the prefect time to start planning a golf trip to Cherokee Valley Course and Club. And new for 2021, we have a two decidedly different experiences to offer have-clubs, will-travel golfers.
Our on-site cottages are the preferred option for those who want to get here, set it and forget it. The collection features three elegantly appointed homes right on the golf course.
Each is equipped with four bed-and-bath suites to provide plenty of privacy and ample room. The cottages afford a relaxing atmosphere with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Rates start at $130 a night for one room with one bed and range up to $600 for a four-bedroom cottage with two beds per room.
A round of golf on our award-winning, P.B. Dye-designed mountain-style layout can be added for $33 on weekdays (Mon. – Thurs.), $43 on weekends (Fri. – Sun.) or $60 for “all you can play,” subject to availability.
For more information on cottage rates, configurations, availability or to book visit our Accommodations Page.
Some golfers want to play our mountain-style course by day and experience all that downtown Greenville has to offer by night. For this combination, we’ve partnered with the historic Westin Poinsett in beautiful downtown Greenville to offer value-laden packages.
Located in the heart of one of America’s most acclaimed cities (just Google “Greenville S.C.” and you’ll find dozens of glowing articles), the AAA Four Diamond hotel is an easy 30-minute drive from the course.
Packages include a 350-square-foot guest room with one king or two queen beds, 42-inch flat screen, mini-fridge, 24-hour Westin Workout Fitness Studio and a round of golf with cart. Rates vary by season and can be obtained via our Partners Page.
The “Ultimate” version of this package includes a round on one of our exciting Finn Cycles, as well as unlimited range balls at our world-class practice facility (home of the North Greenville University men’s and women’s golf teams).
Here’s a sample cottage itinerary to help you plan your spring golf buddies or couples trip to Cherokee Valley Course and Club.
The Night Before – Preparation is key when playing a golf course for the first time. If you use Arccos, 18 Birdies, GolfLogix or another shot-tracking / GPS app, search and download our golf course to your smartphone to preview. And be sure to check out our online scorecard with playing tips for each hole.
Day 1 – Arrive at Cherokee Valley in time for a pre-round lunch prepared by Executive Chef Todd Warden and his amazing team. Be sure to check out our Core 450 website to see if our brand-new casual dining restaurant is open.
Next, grabs a few bags of range balls from the golf shop (which will be located on the first floor of Core 450 once it opens this spring) and loosen up any golf muscles that tightened up on the car ride into Travelers Rest.
Now you and your playing partners are fueled-up, warmed-up and ready to take on what P.B. Dye once referred to as one of his most exciting mountain golf designs. If you’re reading this and playing the course after Core 450 opens, you’ll play our reconfigured routing, which will allow you to ease into your round.
Post-round, check into your cottage, freshen up and relax while taking in the stunning views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. With fully-equipped kitchens and grills, you can bring your own food to cook, or feel free to join us at Core 450 for cold craft brews, appetizers and dinner.
Day 2 – Rise and shine early, and head to charming downtown Travelers Rest for breakfast. Tandem serves up amazing sweet and savory crepes, while Upcountry Provisions is a local favorite for baked goods.
Arrive back at Cherokee Valley for your mid-morning tee time. As the old saying goes, “play a course once to know it know it, twice to own it.” Dye’s beguiling layout is chock-full of nuance, and this time around you’ll have an even better idea of how to play the course from tee to green.
Our new E-Z-GO RXV golf carts also feature high-definition GPS screens providing pinpoint yardages to landing areas, hazards and greens. And at Cherokee Valley, we’re all about having fun on the golf course. So pair your phone with our Bluetooth-ready cart-mounted speakers and call up your favorite playlist.
